We bought this for our 9 month old who is very curious and decided the fireplace mantel area was his favorite plaything. Once he figured out how to open and close the doors to the fireplace our nerves were that much more frazzled. While this a simple invention, it takes off the worry that his fingers will get caught. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to unscrew it every time you want to take it off and on. Not a big deal unless you make fires every evening.

This is a great product. Our 9 month old was constantly opening the fireplace doors and we were worried about his fingers getting caught in the spaces. We purchased this safeguard and it works like a charm. Now he just sits in front of the fireplace doors and admires his own reflection!

This is truly the only guard on the market to use for the fireplace doors. We have folding glass fireplace doors that our son loved to open. We tried all different cabinet locks and nothing worked in this situation but this fireplace door guard (hence the name) worked perfectly and he actually has now grown bored of the fireplace since he can't open the doors.

I rated the item low for fun and educational value. I'm not sure why Amazon has it listed as a toy and has the template toy questions to answer.

When rating it for what it is, a safety device, it's perfect.

Not great if you plan to use the fireplace semi regularly, but great for locking it down. One note, make sure the original fireplace handles (the ones used to open the doors), are not solid and have some sort of opening. Ours were solid wood that sat flush against the doors. I had to replace ours with more traditional handles that had openings of sort.
